    A word on metal inserts:
"Will a metal washer inserted into my rubber tip make it last longer?"
I get this question all of the time.
If you have a solid cane or crutch, I would say no.
Typically, the weight or load is distributed evenly & there is no movement inside the tip.
Your rubber tips are like tires on a car or an eraser on the end of a pencil.
The vast majority of friction & wear is on
the bottom of the rubber tip. Not inside.
Unless you have a very sharp, thin-walled hollow metal tube crutch that would
actually cut into the inside of your rubber tip, a metal insert won't help much.
Also, if you do have a metal insert & you wear your rubber tip all the way
thru to the metal insert, you stand a very good chance of slipping or losing your balance & falling.
Which is what you're trying to avoid in the first place.
It's all about traction because traction is safety.
If your car tires didn't have tread, you would replace them.
If the soles of your shoes didn't have tread you would replace them.
The same goes for your rubber tips. They are cheap compared to tires & shoes.
Replace tips when worn & avoid using them past the point that they were designed for.
